"(Vaļu dziesmās) nav vārdu, nav arī piedziedājumu. Tās vairāk līdzinās Afrikas cilšu dziesmām [..]. Reizēm vaļi dzied kopā, bet reizēm, lai cik arī skumji, viņi dzied raudu dziesmas, kas rakstītas ar okeāna tinti, esot vienatnē. [..]. Vaļiem nav balss saites. Mums nav zināms, kā viņi (vaļi) rada šīs skaņas (dziesmas). Tās nerodas caur gaisa plūsmu; nav arī burbuļu, kas veidotos un apņemtu vaļus, tiem dziedot. Un tomēr ir šie klakšķi, šī svilpošana, šīs čella vaimanām līdzīgās skaņas."
The Author writes in the book:
"There are no lyrics, no refraints. They are more like the chants of African tribes [..]. Sometimes the whales sing together, and sometimes, dramatically, they cry through the ink of the ocean, bemoaning alone. [..]. Whales don`t have vocal cords. We don`t know how it is they meke these sounds. It is not through the expulsion of air; there are no bubbles surrounding whales when they sing. And still there are these clicks, these whistles, these cello groans." |
